Although it attracted a reasonable number of members, activity in our e-group tended to fluctuate as members persued other activities. In the most recent of these periodic quiet periods the host company - Smartgroups - deleted the e-group in its entirety, without warning, and permanently.
When we contacted them they explained they had closed it down because there wasn't enough activity in it, which is fair enough: they're not a charity, and if their adverts aren't being seen there's no commercial sense in hosting the e-group on their servers. But the lack of warning means that we are unable to contact members (ex-members now) individually to offer our regret at the loss of the facility.
We shall, of course, consider whether to set up a new e-group, and your thoughts on the matter would be welcome.
