Brislington Community Museum

Terms and conditions

Brislington Community Museum, as its name implies, focuses on Brislington, an area whose boundary has changed over time but which may be said to include the neighbourhoods of St Anne's, St Anne's Park, Broom Hill, and Kensington Park, as well as parts of Arnos Vale, Hengrove, Stockwood, and Hicks Gate.

We feel that celebrating our history and heritage will help ensure the foundations for future development are strong and securely based in the wellbeing of the community.

If you wish to get in touch with us about the things we do, or could do, please email us.

Offer 1 - identification

We will attempt to identify items from or found in Brislington, including pictures, documents, and other objects (including archaeological fragments). To do this we will share information about the item with people we consider may have relevant local knowledge, but we will not publish anything about it to the general public (it would not, for example, appear as an exhibit in our museum). We may also recommend that you contact other people whose knowledge may assist with identification or who have a particular interest in the sort of item being investigated. We're not always able to provide as much information as we'd like, and sometimes enquiries take longer than we'd wish. Our enthusiasm may be boundless, but our resources are limited. We do not guarantee the information we provide is error-free. This service is free.

Offer 2 - museum publication

We provide a platform to share virtual copies of items ranging from archaeological fragments, to books, and works of art. A wide variety of other subjects are also of interest, including music and theatrical performances, as well as scientific reports. Our primary platform for these contributions is the museum website, but we may also publish or reproduce exhibits in other media from time to time (including our newsletter - Brislington Community Museum News). If we receive new and helpful information about an item you've contributed, we would attempt to give it to you. We do not charge the contributor for any part of this service.

Offer 3 - third party publication

Sometimes we may have an opportunity to publish an exhibit through another organisation, for example a book publisher may ask to print a photograph as an illustration. In such circumstances we would look at the permissions you have given us, and would only proceed if you have said we may. We may charge the publisher for this service, to raise funds to support our activities. We will always seek to continue to have your name associated with the exhibit, if you requested this.

Is the museum error-free?

Probably not, but we do try very hard to make it as accurate as we can, and we will always welcome and try to incorporate feedback from people with new information or more up-to-date insights. As with any history resource, we strongly advise anyone who needs to know something with sufficient certainty that they can rely on it, to check the sources and verify the facts for themselves. Brislington Virtual Museum cannot be held liable for anything bad arising from its use. Any views or opinions expressed in this website must not be taken as being those of the organisation itself, except this one, obviously.

Complaints

Our exhibits come from a wide range of sources, including organisations as well as individuals, and all are presented in good faith. If you would like to see an exhibit removed or its description etc amended (particularly if you feel your rights have been infringed, or the rights of somebody else), please let us know immediately. Our reputation is the most valued thing we have, and we strive to ensure the service we provide to our community is exemplary. We recognise we need help - your help - to achieve and maintain the standards you rightly expect of us, and your comments are warmly invited (please email the secretary).

Copyright

All the museum's content is protected by copyright but may be used freely for private study, and also for certain aspects of non-commercial research as defined in the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. This notice does not restrict the use of the museum's published resources under the 'fair dealing' terms of the Act. If you're unsure about how the law affects what you want to do, or if you wish to reproduce anything for display or publication, please contact the secretary.
