The composition of this photograph, with the village serenely spreading to either side of St Luke's church which literally towers above, is brought to life by the boys in the foreground. The angles between the identifiable building such as the school (School Road) and post office (Village Square) suggest this was taken a short way (perhaps 40m) down the footpath now known as Glen Lane, rather than from Water Lane itself.

The photograph is believed to have been taken by Fred Viner, and the postcard published by Viner & Co., Publishers. Bath. The front carries the title "Brislington, from Water Lane." and the reference number "1220". See our notes for more information about this photographer and postcard publisher, and their work in Brislington.
