A note about the planet, and the Cast List

The following is brief note about the Vejiitasei in my continuum, and an alphabetical list of characters. I don't think I've missed anyone out, but if I have - my apologies. If anyone is interested in finding out what the Saiyan names mean, clicking here will open a new browser window with an explanation...

A very brief note about Vejiitasei

In my continuum, Vejiitasei is a large, slow-moving planet (to account for the canon heavy gravity) with a 600 day year, each day being 40 terran hours long. It is sparsely populated, with a greater number of male Saiyans than females. The capital, Vejiitamachi (effectively, Vejiitaville) is located on the vast, sprawling, multi-terrained continent - Matou - that covers a good quarter of the planet and straddles the equator: the city itself is to the south, a leisurely half-hour ki flight to the north of the Southern Ocean, with open plain to the south east and lush tropical forest to the north.
Further to the South are a series of extensive island chains, each of the major islands having its own dialect and name forms. Saiyans from the South are generally deeply tanned and tend to be slightly smaller than their northern kin. The islands include:

The northern continent - Kitaa - covers the North pole of the planet and is considerably colder than the southern lands. Much of it is covered by very ancient forest. Saiya-jin from the north are paler than their southern kin, generally larger, and a lot hardier.

The Rationale behind the Names

       I didn't really want to churn out endless variations of the same names: I also didn't want to have to try and find 'Japanglish' names for every fruit and vegetable. So I've made northern names 'Japanglish' for common and/or native vegetables (common and/or native to me in the UK, that is!), which fits in well with the canon names (Radittsu being 'Japanglish' for Radish, Kakarotto for Carrot, etc.)
       I've used the names of fruits and vegetables in other languages for the Southern names. I actually have Alithiel to thank for that idea: when I was hunting for names waaaay back in AC1 first sequence, she suggested trying Spanish or Italian names (and while hunting, I found out almost by accident that Nappa could quite easily be a variation on the Spanish nabo - which means Turnip and to me is far more appropriate than anything else I've seen suggested!).
       So each of the main southern islands uses the names of fruit and vegetables in a specific terrestrial language, as you'll see below...

      I know that in the show, Furiizaa's men have the names of fruits, but since in this continuum he doesn't exist, I'm using fruit names for my Saiya-jin as well as vegetables. Makes my life easier!
      I'm also aware that Jeice is, in canon, Chiizu (Cheese). But I like 'Jeice', it's euphonic and attractive, so I've left it as is...

Aguretsu - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.
Ajo - female, biochemist during the last days of the old king's reign. Notable for devising and refining the contraceptive drug used to control female Saiyan fertility when in heat. Later joined Vinas' team as Saiyan expert.
Anzu - noble, father of Vejiita's twin consorts, Council member and tactical expert.
Apyo - male, junior officer in the Elite Guard. Occasional sparring partner to Leteetza.
Armut - female, first class warrior, Leteetza's occasional assistant.
Ayva - female, first class, Saiyan medic.

Bawang - male, Elite Guardsman.
Beremi - male, Elite, Mayis' youngest son, Zorun's nephew.
Bezelye - male, First Class warrior, seconded to R'ren'nkh'ia.
Buahan - Vejiita's first daughter.
Budo - male, second class, Thinker, assistant to Mah'rayne.
Burajirunu - male, low Elite, mate to Pinattsu: orginally intended to be Kelapa's mate (but she refused outright and joined the military...)

Cendawan - female, Elite, offworld forces, sister to Jagung.
Chikori - male, Elite Guardsman.
Chilek - male, Elite warrior, Leteetza's occasional assistant.

Dari - female, first class, twin to Tane: skilled in the precise use of ki.
Donguri - male, first class, second son to Pinattsu and Burajirunu.

Fasulye - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.

Gelaga - southern Lord, Elite, ruler of the island of Rumput, Merica's father.

Hezerunattsu - male, Elite, one of Pankuzu's ruling council. Father of Burajirunu.
Himeringo - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.
Hijau - male, Officer in the Elite Guard, Radittsu's second in command (and good friend). Limau's son.
Hruska - female, Elite Guardsman.

Ichigo - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.
Iiva - female, officer in the Elite Guard. Nominally responsible for ensuring female warriors in heat are seconded to an all-female unit - if possible - or kept in isolation - if necessary.

Jabiliko - male, second class, medic on Vinas' team.
Jagaimo - male, Elite Guardman, commander during the Omanir Conflict.
Jagung - male, Elite Guardsman, brother to Cendawan, mate to Merica.
Jahonda - male, Elite Guardsman, ex of the offworld military, capable tactician.
Jecmen - male Thinker (speciality ancient (Tsufuru-jin) medicine), medic on Vinas' team.
Jeruk - male, Elite Guardsman.
Jintan - male, Elite, second youngest son to Mayis, Zorun's nephew.

Kaarela - female, Leteetza's mother. From a Southern root, the family moved to the North before she was born. An excellent warrior in her youth, rebellious and wild, mated outwith her bond to Sebettsu to produce Leteetza.
Kantola - female, first class, ex-military, living in the north, friend to Sorelya.
Kayusu - female, low Elite, one of Vejiita's consorts, twin to Sheftali, daughter to Anzu. Mother of Vejiita Buahan. The quieter and more amenable of the twins.
Kekik - male, third class, Lord Kurumi's housekeeper.
Kelapa - female, Elite Guardsman, friend to Mahrayne.
Kelichi - female, Limau's mate, mother to Hijau and Setela.
Kikuimo - male, Elite Guardsman.
Kiraz - Vejiita's son, first in line to the throne, twin to Kobis (hair upswept like his father but rich red).
Kobis - Vejiita's son, second in line to the throne, twin to Kiraz (mane of black hair).
Kome - female, Elite, daughter to Kakarotto and Tamata.
Kuri - male, Elite, son of Zorun and Kelapa.
Kurumi - southern Lord, native to Pankuzu, Kelapa's father, Cendawan's first 'employer'.
Kvetak - male, Elite Guardsman.
Kyabetsu - male, Elite Guardsman.
Kyuri - female, twin to Nasu. Officer in the Elite Guard.

Lahana - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.
Liipa - male, Elite Guardsman. Radittsu's first sexual partner.
Limau - male, Elite, Advisor to the old king: valued member of Vejiita's Council. Hijau's father.

Mame - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.
Manzano - male, Elite, ex-military, one of the first members of the Saiya-jin Diplomatic Corps, later Head Diplomat.
Marul - male, Elite Guardsman serving in the offworld forces. Electronics expert (reluctantly).
Melocoto - female, elite class warrior (trained in the first all-female corps), serving in the offworld forces. Rumoured to be Nappa's bedmate...
Mempelam - southern Lady, Elite, Merica's mother.
Merica - male, Elite Guardsman, partner to Jagung. Family are hereditary rulers of the island of Rumput: Merica was effectively disowned when he refused to give up his claimed mate, Jagung.
Meron - female, second class, young Thinker.
Mirkev - female, second class, dancer at the Academy. Cousin to Repa.
Muz - male, Elite Guardsman.

Nappa - male, Commander-in-Chief of the Offworld Military. Xenophobic and brutal.
Nashi - male, Elite, Vejiita's liaison. Something of a sadist.
Nasu - female, twin to Kyuri. Elite class warrior serving in Nappa's offworld forces.
Nenas - male, Elite class warrior, member of Vejiita's Council, represents the elite warriors.
Nikuzuku - male, first class, eldest son to Pinattsu and Burajirunu.
Ninjin - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.
Nyiur - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.

Pancar - male, second class, valet to Merica and Jagung.
Peretsu - male, Elite Guardsman. Radittsu's second sexual partner.
Pinattsu - female, First Class, mate to Burajirunu.
Pisang - male, first class warrior, member of Vejiita's Council, represents the non-elite military.
Puramu - male, Elite Guard, seconded to R'ren'nkh'ia.

Repa - female, second class, dancer at the Academy. Cousin to Mirkev.
Retasu - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.
Ringo - Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.

Sasa - female, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.
Sayaingen - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.
Sengkuang - southern Lord, unpleasant and ugly.
Serendah - male, Elite, brother to Merica.
Setela - Hijau's twin brother.
Sheftali - Vejiita's consort, low Elite, twin to Kayusu, daughter to Anzu. Mother to Vejiita Kobis and Vejiita Kiraz. The more obstreperous of the twins.
Suguri - male, Elite Guardsman, Radittsu's second in command on R'ren'nkh'ia. Partner to the zn'hre Ti'zheenan.

Tane - female, first class, twin to Dari: skilled in the precise use of ki.
Timun - male Elite, accused of treason: punished by having tail severed and exile. Killed himself rather than endure life as a tailless Saiyan. Father of Cendawan and Jagung, who were left destitute and dishonoured after his suicide.
Tomorokoshi - male, first class, digraced member of the offworld military.
Toneriku - male, second class, medic.

Ubi - female Thinker, close colleague to Leteetza.
Uzum - male, Elite Guardsman, excellent spacecraft pilot.

Vejiita - surely I don't have to tell anyone who he is...?

Yuzu - male, Elite Guardsman.

Zelenyi - young male, junior member of the diplomatic corps.
Zenchefil - male, Elite Guard, member of the special squad, skilled in the employment of nitorine.

Abricotto - male, Elite, northern lord with extensive property and staff: father of Netsariin and Peyaru.

Baadakku - male, Elite warrior (ex-Elite Guardsman, now respected trainer), father to Radittsu and Kakarotto, mate to Sorelya.
Bahley - female, Elite, mother to Nappa, Zorun, Mayis, Weatsu, Ry, mate to Suwedo.
Bruzzelo - male, Elite, captain of the first all-female warrior corps.

Collee - female,second class, Limau's old housekeeper.
Cressu - male, friend of the young Radittsu, first class warrior currently in the offworld military.

Dulsya - female, second class warrior, friend to Sorelya.

Kabaji - female, old acquaintance of Leteetza's.
Kakarotto - male, third class warrior, brother to Radittsu, son to Baadakku and Sorelya, mate to Tamata, father of Pasunippu.

Leteetza - female, daughter of Kaarela and unknown (as yet. Well, I know, but I'm not saying anything...) father, Elite Guardsman, diplomatic researcher, Kings Companion, mother of the first Saiya-jin/R'ren'nkh'ia-jin hybrids.

Mayis - female, Elite, Zorun's younger sister.

Netsariin - female, low elite lady, daughter of Abricotto, old 'friend' to Hijau.

Pasunippu - male, son to Tamata and Kakarotto.
Peyaru - male, elite lord, son to Abricotto and arranged mate to Buahan.

Piturun - male, Elite Guardsman, friend and contemporary to Zorun.

Radittsu - male, Captain of the Elite Guard, bonded lifemate of the High King of R'ren'nkh'ia, Leteetza's occasional lover, brother to Kakarotto, son to Baadakku and Sorelya.
Ramsomsu - female, second class warrior, friend to Sorelya.
Ry - male, Elite, Zorun's youngest brother.

Sebettsu - Kaarela's mate, not Leteetza's father.
Sorelya - female, Elite warrior (trainer), mother to Radittsu and Kakarotto, mate to Baadakku. Noted for high ki, no-nonsense attitude and explosive temper.
Suwedo - male, veteran of the Elite Guard, mate to Bahley, father to Zorun, Mayis, Weatsu and Ry.

Tamata - female, third class warrior, long time friend of Leteetza, mate to Kakarotto, mother of Pasunippu.
Taaro - male, first class warrior, son to Sebettsu and Kaarela and half-brother to Leteetza.

Weatsu - male, Elite, Zorun's second youngest brother.

Yleceri - male, first class, friend to the young Radittsu. Now part of the offworld force.
Yonioni - male, Elite Guardsman. Dour, grim, but staunch.

Zorun - male, Elite warrior, old king's personal guardsman. Objected to new king's opening up Vejiitasei to aliens: joined the offworld forces for a while, then returned, requesting to resume his old position.

Zha'haabron's Family

Zha'haabron - zn'hre, High King of R'ren'nkh'ia, bonded lifemate to Radittsu, bondmate to Ti'aasaan and Zha'haarak (who is also his host-sib). Allied to Vejiita.
Zha'haarak - the 'gentle' zn'hre, bonded and host-sib to Zha'haabron, bondmate to Ti'aasaan and Radittsu. Originally Dhr'ovaanon's captive: brutally tortured over many years.
Zha'hiirad - Zha'haabron's third zn'hre host-sib: tortured and mutilated by Gh'grigon, given release by Zha'haabron.
Ti'aasaan - the 'little' zn'hre, bondmate to Zha'haabron, Zha'haarak and Radittsu, occasional bedmate to Leteetza and sire of the first Saiya-jin/R'ren'nkh'ia-jin hybrids.

Most of the names are derived from Latin words (I love my 'Langenscheidt Universal Latin/English Dictionary') but a few are ones I made up before I thought about using Latin, or they came from eavesdropping on the children.

Acipenser - (latin) sturgeon - female: bead-setter.
Astolan - (originally my own invention then I found out 'asto' meant stiff in latin. appropriate I think) - male: Mahrayne's father, and his eldest son.

Chumie - (made up) - female: Mahrayne's sister, a dancer, Testa's partner.
Condio - (latin) to make savoury, soften - male: hunter from an old Hassinan story.

Daris - (a 3 year old version of 'Paris') - male: Chumie and Testa's male.
Dignusia - (latin: dignus) worth, deserving - female: bone carver, Peruro's partner.

Furax - (latin) thief - male: Ientus and Iocor's father.
Furvus - (latin) dark, gloomy - male: Peruro and Dignusia's father.

Genesia - (latin) newcomer - female: one of Astolan's females, and Mahrayne's first adult partner.

Iocor - (latin) joke, jest - female: Malum's female.

Licium - (latin) thread - female: Mahrayne's oldest sister.

Mahrayne - (my own invention) - female: our heroine.
Malum - (latin) apple - male: Mahrayne's favourite brother.
Marldus - (a name my son [Marcus - 6] gave himself while he was pretending to be an alien) - male: Hassinan Lead Speaker.

Nonnia - (made up) - female: one of Astolan's females, Tella's partner.

Persicum - (latin) peach - female: apprentice mid-wife (teverdia).
Peruro - (latin) to burn, inflame - female: bead-setter, Dignusia's partner.

Pirum - (latin) pear - female: Mahrayne's youngest sister.
Pomum - (latin) fruit - female: healer.

Renita - (latin) confident woman - female: mother of the last deformed child.

Rursus - (latin) back, backwards - male: Pirum's intended male.
