Lutra issued me with a challenge - "write a one off lemony yaoi/shonen-ai fic which does not lead to a multi-part epic…"
As it happened, this reached me at just the right time: I'd given in to the urge to re-watch Arslan Senki (The Heroic Legend of Arislan) (what I have of it, anyway, part one and half of part 2…) and was strongly tempted to write a story. The anime is a favourite of mine, possibly one of the most visually beautiful I've ever seen, the language of the dub courtly and formal, the animation graceful, wonderfully coloured, and (to quote Helen McCarthy) absolutely stuffed with pretty boys. (It also has Daniel Flynn (Benten, Brahma) voicing Narsus, and as some of you know, Daniel Flynn's voice is one of only two that can reduce me to a little puddle on the floor…) The anime is slightly disjointed, a little slow in places and very 'talky', but that aside it's a wonderful watch. Anyway, I decided to use this for my challenge. I've never written quite like this before: it was fun!
It also ended up being a multi-parter. So I guess I failed the challenge....

Images borrowed from other sites Backstory in brief. Set in ancient Persia (Parse), the anime tells the story of Prince Arislan's efforts to regain the throne after his father was betrayed by Karlan, and the country overcome by the enemy Lusitanian forces. Daryun - recently stripped of his command as a general of the Parsian army - escapes the battlefield with the 14 year old prince, having pledged his life to protect the heir to the Parsian throne. But they need assistance…
